$ 2 million for Quiznos sandwich
Dynamic Equity has completed a $2 million investment into QTR Ltd.: the
franchisee for Quiznos in Trinidad and Tobago. Quiznos is the fastest growing
sandwich chain in the USA, known as much for its uniquely quirky ads as for the
exquisite quality of its products. Quiznos opened its first local restaurant in
St. James in December 2004.
Jean Boucaud, Managing Director of QTR, was enthusiastic about the
investment: "It allows us to quadruple the number of our restaurants in
2006, and take a quantum leap to the future. We are on a quest to expand in a
rapid sequence but were in a quandary about financing it. Today's equity
injection provides us with the liquidity to roll out restaurants until they are
ubiquitous in Trinidad & Tobago."
Jelle Sjoerdsma, Managing Director of Dynamic Equity, noted that QTR quickly
met the requirements to qualify for investment. He added that "any qualms
we had were quelled after the franchisor also offered support as a quid-pro-quo
to facilitate our investment. I don't think anyone would quibble over the
product itself, so today we are quite happy to hand over a cheque." The new
partners, he said, are quivering in anticipation of frequent queues at Quiznos
to sample their banquet of quintessentially toasted subs.
Dynamic Equity is a local venture capital and private equity firm. It
currently manages $35 million in funding provided by the Andean Development Fund
(CAF), Inter-American Development Bank, and Guardian Life of the Caribbean
Limited.
